The film stars Tom Wilkinson, Sissy Spacek, Nick Stahl, Marisa Tomei, and William Mapother.

Early life and education[edit]

Killings

Killings is a short tale written by Andre Dubus in 1979. The short story entails how a man seeks revenge after the death of his son in cold blood.[1] In 2001, the story was adapted into Todd Field's film, In the Bedroom. The film starred Sissy Spacek, Tom Wilkinson, and Marisa Tomei, and was nominated for five Academy Awards – Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role (Wilkinson), Actress in a Leading Role (Spacek), Actress in a Supporting Role (Tomei), and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Published (Robert Festinger & Field). In the Bedroom is the name of the book in which the short story was published.

When I was sixteen, I found a coffee-stained copy of Raymond Carver’s Where I’m Calling From left behind on the table of a local café. From the opening lines of the collection’s first story, I was captivated by the precision of the writing. As I finished each story, I would close the book and flip to the photograph of Carver on the back cover. The contrast between the stories and that image of the author confused me.
