Absinthe is a formerly banned spirit drink that is made with Artemisia absinthium (wormwood) and other herbs. It is also known as la fée verte (the green fairy). During the 19th century absinthe became a very popular drink in central Europe, although it was eventually banned. After being illegal for many years, true absinthe is once again legal in many countries. And like any great spirit, there are many drinking rituals surrounding it. Try one, try all — just don't start seeing green.

Absinthe (Proper Way to Drink Absinthe
i/ˈæbsɪnθ/ or /ˈæbsænθ/; French: [apsɛ̃t]) is historically described as a distilled, highly alcoholic (45–74% ABV / 90–148 U.S. proof) beverage.[1][2][3][4] It is an anise-flavoured spirit derived from botanicals, including the flowers and leaves of Artemisia absinthium ("grand wormwood"), together with green anise, sweet fennel, and other medicinal and culinary herbs.[5] Absinthe traditionally has a natural green colour but may also be colourless. It is commonly referred to in historical literature as "la fée verte" (the green fairy). Although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a liqueur, absinthe is not traditionally bottled with added sugar; it is therefore classified as a spirit.[6] Absinthe is traditionally bottled at a high level of alcohol by volume, but it is normally diluted with water prior to being consumed.

How to drink Absinthe.

Absinthe was a very popular drink during the 1800's, and especially during the impressionistic art movement. It was said that the wormwood in the drink would cause the consumer to hallucinate, and because of this, it was nicknamed "la fée verte" or The Green Fairy in French. These days studies have shown that wormwood doesn't really cause hallucinations, and that they were probably caused by poisonous adulterants in cheaper versions of the drink. It was banned in the USA for a time, but in 2007 it was approved to be sold under certain regulations.Warning: If you don't like licorice, don't drink this, because that's what it tastes like! Also, Don't drink if your under 21, or if you happen to be in another country where the drinking age is lower, go ahead.
