What is Portfolios for Student Growth?

Portfolios for Student Growth (PSG) is a holistic, student-centered, process-led approach to portfolio development. PSG offers educators a way to guide students to explicitly link academic learning with future planning and goal setting. Through the portfolio process, students develop the self-awareness, goal-setting, and decision-making skills essential for lifelong self-determination.

• A learning log entry
• A journal entry
• BCR responses for math or reading
• Quick writes or other brainstorming activities
• Research notes
• Letters
• A social studies composition
• Planning documents, photos, and a summary from a science fair project
• Notes or planning documents (e.g. a story board) for videotaped, audiotaped, or multimedia presentations.
• Multimedia or Web 2.0 presentations
• Formative and summative assessments
• Peer review records

• Teacher-student conference records

Academic and Career Portfolio

In the competitive world of today and tomorrow, students need to be sure they take advantage of every educational opportunity available. The Beaver Dam High School Academic and Career Portfolio is one tool that can help set our students apart from others. Many employers would welcome the opportunity to have a potential employee present their portfolio at a job interview. Technical colleges require a portfolio upon completion of most programs. Four year colleges are now requiring portfolios for some majors as an admission requirement and one on completion of most majors.
