There is so much more to photosynthesis than just that but we aren’t here to talk about photosynthesis but mainly plant structure and behavior. Plants have three types of specialized cells, root hair cells, guard cells, and palisade cells.

Root Hair Cells, this right here is one of them. Plants absorb water through osmosis and root hair cells are made to do this process. They have a larger surface area to speed up the osmosis process. Root hair cells are found at the root tips of a plant and generally are found together with other cells in large quantities.They have a very simple structure, have a short lifespan and are constantly being replaced. They absorb nutrients and water that later sent to the rest of the plant.
Guard Cells. Guard cells are cells surrounding each stoma. They help to regulate the rate of transpiration by opening and closing the stomata, Stomata are tiny structures typically found on the outer layer of any plants leaf, they’re also known as the epidermis. For example on the following diagram, they are regulating the flow of water. Water will move from a region with higher water potential to a region of lower water potential.
Palisade cells. These cells are basically the ones that you learned about in middle school and the ones responsible for photosynthesis. They are generally found on the leaves to have the most contact with sunlight. Palisade cells contain the largest number of chloroplast which essentially allows them to do photosynthesis. There are different organelles of the palisade cell but there are six main organelles, The nucleus,cell wall,cell membrane,chloroplast,vacuole and the cytoplasm.

Different plant cells perform different tasks. Palisade cells and spongy cells are located just below the epidermis and are a plant’s main food-producers. The tall palisade cells are packed with green chloroplasts, which carry out photosynthesis. The irregularly shaped spongy cells also have chloroplasts. Air spaces between the cells are filled with carbon dioxide, water vapour and other gases.

The outermost layer of the leaf is the epidermis. It consists of the upper and lower epidermis, which are present on either side of the leaf. Botanists call the upper side the adaxial surface (or adaxis) and the lower side the abaxial surface (or abaxis). The epidermis aids in the regulation of gas exchange. It contains stomata, which are openings through which the exchange of gases takes place. Two guard cells surround each stoma, regulating its opening and closing. Guard cells are the only epidermal cells to contain chloroplasts.
