What concentration of S2 can be expected when 0.200 mole of H2S comes to equilibrium at 1100 K in an otherwise empty 1.00-L vessel?

We write the equation and place quantities at the initial condition and at various stages below the formula. We assume x mol of S2 is formed, and this leads to the formation of 2x moles of H2. Since -2x moles of H2S is required, the equilibrium concentration of H2S is 0.200 - 2x. Thus, we have

The Graphical Approach

By now, we are familiar with graphs of supply curves and demand curves. To find market equilibrium, we combine the two curves onto one graph. The point of intersection of supply and demand marks the point of equilibrium. Unless interfered with, the market will settle at this price and quantity. Why is this? At this point of intersection, buyers and sellers agree on both price and quantity. For instance, in the graph below, we see that at the equilibrium price p*, buyers want to buy exactly the same amount that sellers want to sell.

Vapor pressures of solid hydrates

A particularly interesting type of heterogeneous reaction is one in which a solid is in equilibrium with a gas. The sublimation of ice illustrated in the above table is a very common example. The equilibrium constant for this process is simply the partial pressure of water vapor in equilibrium with the solid— the vapor pressure of the ice.
